Our top-selling fire-rated intumescent-lined, woven glass fabric covers for lights and downlighters. Intumescent Covers for Downlighters create a fire seal to maintain integrity as well as the fire rating of a ceiling. Easily fitted from above or below in plasterboard or suspended ceilings. In the event of a fire, the Fire Hood or Downlight Covers will slow the spread of fire and smoke through the ceiling, giving occupants valuable time to evacuate safely and allowing emergency services to reduce fire damage.

With buildings left unprotected, fire and smoke rapidly spread and destroy rooms and properties. Installing passive fire products for electrical services provides multiple benefits including:

  • Compartmentalising fire
  • Preventing fire spread
  • Preserving building structures
  • The intumescent material will expand to create a fire barrier, preventing fires from spreading. This allows occupants to safely evacuate a building and for fire rescue services to extinguish flames before they become severe.

    • Tested to BS476 Parts 22, 23 and 23 (Clause 5) (1987), achieving 240minutes integrity.
Our electrical and lighting products meet IET wiring regulations as well as Document B & E of Building Regulations tested to European and British Standards.

    Product Features:

    • Maintains the fire rating of plasterboard or suspended ceilings rated up to 1 hour
    • Available in standard and acoustic forms, preventing sound transfer from different floors of a building up to 63dB
    • Can be made to accommodate downlighters alone, or downlighter/transformer combos
    • Downlighter cages are a sturdier option, allowing for insulation to be laid over the top after they are fixed in place – ideal for lofts
    • Can be used to improve the fire rating of ceiling-mounted speakers as well as downlighters
    • Can be fitted from below
    • Not affected by moisture (rot proof)
    • Easily installed in 5 minutes or less. Custom sizes made to order.

    Installing the Fire Hood

    • Ensure to install the Fire Hood before the downlight to simplify the process.
    • Lead the cable through the fire hood to connect with the downlight
    • Compress the cover to fit into the opening and push it into the ceiling void, ensuring continuous contact with the firehood
    • Use a blunt instrument, such as the handle of a screwdriver, or your hands to shape the Fire Hood within the hole. Ensure it is fully open in all directions.
    • Once in place, position the fixing clips at the edge of the ceiling aperture.
    • Make sure the Fire Hood sits flat above the downlight.

Please note the aperture of this fire hood is approx. 111mmx111mm
